last night we celebrated May Day...

the dining room table was set and ready by 4:15, which was pretty good considering I got home at 3:45, lol…

this group gathers every month or so and share a meal, check-in with one another and then have a conversation which can lead us in a variety of directions… 

I’ve had this bowl since Christmas when my son-in-law bought it for me… since then it’s been sitting in the counter with various chocolate bars in it… put buns from Homer’s in it… first time it has held something other than chocolate, lol…

it is a beauty… although it looked pretty good filled with chocolate;-)…

there had been tons of research done and we learned a lot… heard about Morris dancers and saw photos of May Day traditions over the centuries…

enjoy spending time with this great group…

today is my birthday;-)…

I love birthdays, mine and everyone else’s… I like presents too… they don’t need to be big or expensive… 

I enjoy the birthday song being sung over the phone, or in person, or nowadays by text… when my kids were little I’d sing it to them the number of years they were turning… eventually you can’t sing it enough times in the day, lol.. 

last night my BS friends brought birthday cherry pie and presents… so this morning I enjoyed the last piece of the pie with my breakfast…

I’ve never been a cake lover…

busy at work but there was time to spend with visitors, who also brought treats – chips and a lovely purple water bottle… and answer some of the birthday calls and texts that came throughout the day…

purple tipped flowers from my colleagues with a fun balloon and card… one of our traditions is to circulate a card that everyone adds comments to for the celebrant… always a gift to read the kind notes included…

was going to order from SkipTheDishes but made leftover turkey dinner instead, one of my favourite meals…

then had a treat, lol…

had some loose tea in my new left-handed the wall tea cup… works really well and the tea I’d picked up recently at one of the Farmers Markets is delicious – it is similar to one of our all time favourites that was discontinued a number of years ago… and chips with two types of chocolate bars – my favourite Aschenti Cacao 79% with Sea Salt, and one of the bars we picked up in Mazatlan – a Ritter bar that had rum, nuts and fruit in it…

I mean, I’d been good all day, and it is my birthday, lol…

thinking back to a delicious piece of chocolate cake we found and shared by the Flatiron building in New York last year on my birthday…

really was one of the best pieces of cake I’ve ever eaten…

a great day to be alive…

have really taken the day to rest and recover from the cold I’ve been struggling with all week… 

these are some of the times when I most miss my beloved… he always did a great job of looking after me…

jammies on all day and the only thing I did was prepare meals…

for breakfast I really wanted to order something, but dragged myself down to the kitchen and took inspiration from the cute woman at the resort who made all the egg dishes… cooked up mushrooms, green onion and spinach and made an omelette with a little cheese in it as well… came out very nicely…

for lunch I chose the last bit of my zucchini basil chicken soup with chips and some Mexican chocolate… seemed like just the right combination, lol…

for supper made one of the ChefsPlate meals… still enjoying the process of preparing the meal… and it tasted great…

turkey and spinach meatballs…

as I was sitting in the living room waiting for the meatballs to finish cooking I could actually smell the hyacinth…

hurray, the cold is starting to let up…

took it easy today after all the fun and busyness of the last week…

slept in and had a smoothie for breakfast… unpacked and did laundry… put chemicals in the hot tub and watered the plants…

added the new blanket to the bed, watched a good amount of tv (we didn’t even turn the one on in our room while we were away)… and also ate chips… had very few while I was away… missed them a lot…

gathered up all the chocolate that I purchased and took a few photos…

loving my new tech bag… it has all my bits and pieces in one spot…

tonight took this picture of the sun setting… appreciated the sunsets in Mazatlan but happy to be home and see my own, lol…

really enjoyed the quiet day…

foggy morning… we had breakfast and then went in search of tequila, cigars and chocolate…

walked up the street and found a tequila shop which specializes in mango tequila… also had a few other types… found cigars in a little store close by and then took a Pulmonia downtown… apparently we could all ft in one because the two younger boys could sit on our laps…

checked out the large market and then went in search of chocolate… found some a few blocks away from the market in a department store, lol…

then we went in search of the cliff divers… took a few wrong turns and walked a bit further than needed but eventually we found the spot…

seems like a dangerous pastime but one of the divers told me being injured is part of the job… yikes…

back to the hotel for a nap and some pool time…

this is the hallway outside our room… you can see a busy part of the city through the open portion of the windows…

here’s our chocolate haul… hope it is tasty;-)…

missed the sun setting by a few minutes tonight but it was still a lovely sky…

one last day tomorrow;-)…

hot tub has been doing some weird stuff… when I went out a few nights ago it was 100 degrees rather than the normal 103… made for a short hot tub, lol… 

as I got home last night it was down to 93 degrees… called the spa people, but of course they were closed… on my way out this morning I checked the temp again and it was back up to 102… 

spoke with them this morning and they don’t know what the problem was… bit worrisome, but I will keep my eye on it and if it misbehaves will have to call them to come out and have a look…

tonight it was back to 103… yay…

topped off what seemed like a very long week, although it was only four working days, with a few squares of dark chocolate from Aschenti Cocoa…

enjoying my flowers…

been thinking about how blessed I am…

have enough money to be able to go and pick up a few things at the Farmers’ Market if I want…

and so I did today… got some Stak Company soup mix, some micro greens for today’s lunch and a couple of chocolate bars just for me…

my health is good and I am able to get out and about whenever I want… did all that walking downtown on Tuesday with the kids…

was very excited to see the solar lights shining through the snow in the garden…

usually a sign that the sun is getting stronger and it is getting warmer;-)…

I am ready for Spring…

could barely drag myself out of bed this morning… was so tired… 

really finding that I need that one do nothing day in the weekend to recover from the week…

cooked a small roast and baked a potato which gave me an hour to rest when I got home… finished off with a lettuce salad… good thing it was easy because I am still tired…

two of my Monday night friends came by and one brought a delicious bit of cake for us to try… chocolate with a lemon sauce and some whipping cream…

I licked my plate…

apparently I looked so bad they only stayed for a little while so I could get to bed, lol… I was cold and had to dig out a warm jacket… the others thought it was warm in the house…

hoping that a good night’s sleep will fix me up… really don’t have time to be sick…

slept in and lazed around all morning…

went to PTE and enjoyed a great play…

started with a drink and ate chocolate during the play… pretty fine way to spend an afternoon…

enjoyed some people watching and was amazed at the different ways people wear purple in their hair… not always to my taste, lol…

caught a few Pokémon and many poke balls while I was out and on the way home walked down the street searching for a few more…

even at 5:15 the light was lovely as I got close to the house… so wonderful to see more daylight every day…

already feeling more positive as the days get brighter…

started the day with breakfast at the “A” as my son-in-law was leaving around noon… we took the car cause it was kind of chilly out…

good sized snowflakes were coming down so I took a bit of time and got a few good shots…

came home, packed up the son-in-law and dropped him off for his flight…

we ended up waiting with him for over a hour… always sad when they are heading home…

we headed downtown, visited Chocolatier Constance Popp chocolate shop and went to check out the Empowering Women Exhibit at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights…

we didn’t walk the ramps due to time constraints but it would have really helped our Fitbit steps, lol…

it was very windy today which made it feel especially cold… but we did go to The Forks for a short wander… nice to check out the renovations…

came home, warmed up leftover steak and lobster for supper, and then headed out for a hot tub…

in now and planning some chocolate tasting with wine and tea… then to bed…

she leaves tomorrow afternoon…
