since August 26th, I’ve been watching a water lily flower bud… first noticed it about four inches under the water…

once it reached the water level, it has come up about an inch and then popped back under the water… then it would reemerge and finally it rose about two inches out of the water…

it finally opened on Tuesday, September 2nd, on a very cool, overcast, and windy afternoon… certainly, not a day to sit by the pond😢…

since then it has remained closed up…

hoping the weather turns warm and sunny before it returns below the surface…

hopeful…

I am so happy that the hibiscus has a flower on it… this is the first one since the tree came outside…

it is so pretty and I am hopeful that there will be more in the near future…

these pictures were taken about two hours apart on Friday…

lovely sunrise through the trees this morning…

and then I spotted what I think is going to be the last bloom on the hibiscus for now…

a bit sad as I’m not sure when it might start blooming again, but I will keep checking daily…

I’ve been sure to stop and check it out throughout the day;-)…

another great day…

while I was on a walking tour around my space, I spotted this little cutie in the shade garden…

of course the shade garden is no longer shady as the elm that provided that shade was removed a number of years ago…

I still miss it… and clearly I need a new name for this garden, lol…

last night on my way home I picked up an iTunes card so that I could upgrade one of my apps, and now I have some more shapes to play with for pictures, lol…

enjoyed a quiet day watching Olympics and napping…

I did run over to Total Wrapture to have the shellac removed from my fingernails…

for some reason the beautiful white French manicure turned a strange shade of yellow/orange… the aesthetician had never seen anything like it… that’s me… special… although the polish didn’t chip, my nails do not feel great now that it has been scraped off…

the sunshine made me think it was warm out, but with the wind, it was rather chilly…

final other activity was to take some pictures of my flowers in the sunlight…

that yellow ball in the sky really does brighten everything up;-)…

first thing this morning I took a few pictures of my purple tulips…

really amazing how flowers make me happy…

also have tulips at my desk at the office… we always buy them in support of the Lung Association Breathe fundraiser… 

tonight I made this delicious ChefsPlate Thai Sweet Potato Curry with coconut milk, swiss chard and whole wheat naan bread… it was delicious and also made me happy…

I was so excited to start eating it that the bowl was half empty when I remembered to take a picture…

can hardly wait to eat the leftovers;-)…

right after work was picked up by the kids and headed to the Assiniboine Park Zoo for a special member only evening…


especially nice to get to spend time there in the evening, as the zoo usually closes at 5…

we finally managed to check out the dinosaurs…


all of the food was half price so it made for a very reasonable option for dinner…


and treats;-)…

we saw a couple of bears, one of the horses and finished at the Butterfly Garden…


checking out the variety of chrysalis… not too many butterflies to see today… likely because it was cooling off and the sun wasn’t out…

always manage to find a flower to get a picture of, lol


great way to end my week…

here’s how the day has gone…

when I arrived home tonight, after seven, I found the back door ajar…


cleaners were here mid afternoon… so, likely it’s been unlocked for three hours… 

I didn’t even hesitate to go in… or even bother to look around for intruders… clearly it just didn’t get closed properly…

then I looked out the window and saw this…


went out and spent a few minutes enjoying the poppy flower… it’s a beauty and may be the only one this year as I don’t see any other buds in the garden… 

the year George died there were over forty blooms… never had that many flowers before or since…

really happy that I saw it because they are usually a single day flower… might be gone tomorrow…

ups and downs, lol…

had a wonderful surprise this morning when I came downstairs…

IMG_8736.JPGthe hibiscus was blooming… often when you bring a plant indoors it will die back, so this was quite wonderful…

looked out the window and watched the moon… the eclipse had finished earlier and the moon was no longer red, but it sure was big… the picture doesn’t do it justice, lol…

IMG_8739.JPGonce I got home from work I jumped in the car and raced to the grocery store… I am on for soup tomorrow and am doing a recipe I haven’t tried before, and because I didn’t feel great last night I didn’t get the shopping done… once home I peeled carrots and yams and tossed everything into a soup pot and got cooking…

IMG_8737.JPGthe really funny part was that this was a crockpot recipe but I didn’t have time to use the crockpot to cook it…

surprisingly it isn’t as orange as expected because I got yams instead of sweet potatoes and they were white inside…
